My old pal Bob is wanting to do some work around the house for me.
He’s a handy guy, in the general sense, and I know he has a background in it, but I’m still not sure.
I have known Bob since eighth grade, when we sat next to each other in math class. We both failed that class, mostly on account of fooling with each other, and sat next to each other in summer school that year. I got my act together, but Bob never really did. I teach english classes to foreign students over Zoom these days, and Bob is in between construction jobs. I trust him with hanging new doors and fixing the drywall, things like that, but something like swimming pool construction is a pretty big job for him. He has worked construction jobs of one kind or another for most of his adult life, so he has experience, but is it the right kind of experience? The reason he has worked all manner of construction jobs is that he keeps getting fired and has to move on to another one. It’s not like he is a general contractor waiting for his next job, he’s a former carpenter turned roofer turned landscaper who keeps getting canned for being drunk at work. So I will give him so light jobs, to help him out because I know he’s having a tough time, but will save all the legit construction work for a legit construction company. When I get a swimming pool put it, I want it to be a nice one.
