I didn't expect to spend money on the fireplace

My wife and I bought a new house a couple of months ago.

We loved the house which sits on four acres of lakefront property.

We weren’t planning to buy a new place, but this house was perfect for our family of four. I love living on the water and we dreamed of a place with lakefront access and a big yard. Both of us love to kayak and canoe and we recently bought a set of stand up paddle boards. The outdoors is our favorite place to be. When the realtor got us a showing, I realized that we couldn’t give up the house. We bid our price and we had to spend a little more money than we actually planned, but it was worth it to secure the property. One of the biggest problems that we had to tackle right away was the fireplace. It needed to be rebuilt including the mantle, hearth, and all of the chimney parts. I got a couple of different estimates from HVAC contractors that specialize in chimneys and fireplaces. The work was more than three grand, but the HVAC contractor built a brand new mantle for the fireplace and it was beautifully crafted out of oak. He even carved our surname into the mantle. I think the fireplace looks wonderful in the media center and I can’t wait to redo the flooring so the entire room looks rustic and warm. My wife and I didn’t plan on spending three grand to fix the fireplace, but we are extremely happy every time we get to use the amenity.
