I have always suffered from mild dyslexia.
- I have a lot of trouble reading and writing and that is due to the fact that my numbers and letters appear forwards and backwards.
I had a difficult time in school and I knew that college was not the right answer for me. I had to find a way to make money and support myself, and I found a technical school with a program for HVAC certification. I talked to the support staff about my problems with dyslexia and the professors in most of my classes made it possible for me to have extra time to take my tests. Some of my professors allowed me to take an oral exam inside of a written test. Unfortunately for me, I was not allowed to have any special provisions when it came time to take the certification for my HVAC services license. I was up all night on the evening before the exam. I could barely sleep at all and I was feeling very nervous and anxious. My girlfriend tried to get me to relax, but I was so nervous that I was shaking. I was extremely worried that I would not be able to pass the HVAC certification test. I knew that I could take the exam a second or third time if I failed on the first attempt, but I didn’t want to take the test multiple times. I knew the information and I wanted to score high on the test on the first try. I barely slept a wink that night, but I woke up the next morning, bright, awake and ready to take the test.
