When our old A/C unit died last year, my daughter wanted us to give it a proper burial.
I thought that was the craziest thing that I had ever heard, but she’s a pretty sentimental little girl and so I just decided to go ahead and humor her. We decided that instead of sending the broken down air conditioning unit to the dump like we were planning to do, we would bury the air conditioning unit down in the back field behind our house. Luckily, we have a lot of land and so it wasn’t that big of a deal to do it. I think if we hadn’t been able to do an A/C funeral, it would have really bothered my daughter. I didn’t want to make her upset, and so even though there was something weird about burying an inanimate object like an air conditioning unit, I went ahead and helped her do it. At the so-called A/C funeral, my daughter decided to speak a few words and she went on and on about how she was grateful to the air conditioning unit for keeping us all nice and cool for so many years. It was kind of sweet, but it was also really weird. I guess my children are just really sentimental, and that’s okay with me. We decided to go ahead and get a new high efficiency air conditioning system for the house. Now, I guess we have all gotten used to the new cooling system. It’s doing a great job at keeping the house cool this year.
